When we started drafting the Web Platform concept, one problem stood out immediately: while there are games and Members around, it's unclear where they can be easily found and commuted to with minimal effort.
That's why the first point on the design table was: Community Location Services.
Did you know that there are 254 public transportation lines in Berlin and just U-Bahn and S-Bahn consist of 315 unique stations? We certainly did not ;-) So that's why it's so hard to pinpoint a specific location when somebody says "we play in Friedrichshain" or "we play in Mitte" — there's just so many stations around!
Our goal is to make this simpler. We have codified all the U-Bahn and all the S-Bahn stations so far (Tram and Bus lines are next) to help you localize other Members and games with strong privacy requirements in mind: you only ever need to disclose your station and not your address (unless you of course want to).
Later on we will add also key community locations like stores, cafes, clubs, and other relevant places. This way you can say "I organize my game near S Lankwitz" and other Members will have tools to easily route their path and see if your game is in their preferred accessibility range (distance and preferred lines). Sounds cool, right?
We will be sharing more about the Community Location Services and Games Finder soon, so stay tuned. As always, if you have any questions, feel free to use the contact form located in the footer of the page.
